Clone Wars (2003-05 mini-series)
The Clone Wars first started out as an animated TV mini-series in 2003, based on the Star Wars characters created by George Lucas. The animation leaned towards the more traditional hand-drawn style and the stories were heavy on action and light on dialogue.
Now, the series returns, only this time it hits the big screen first before eventually becoming a new TV series. Another difference is that the animation in the new version is 3D computer generated, giving the Star Wars franchise a brand new look, taking advantage of some of the advancements that have been introduced in the field of animation. Interview: George Lucas (Clone Wars)
I really enjoyed the first one and thought the animation style was eye-catching with great character designs. It had a very pop-artish look and the action sequences were phenomenal. With so much action, it didn't leave a lot of time for dialogue or character development but it didn't seem to hurt the story and was able to communicate a lot through the fast-paced scenes.
The new Clone Wars movie also looks impressive and it will be interesting to see if it can hold the interest of long-time Star Wars fans who may be wary of the new format.
