Due to the positive response I received to the United Hockey Blades (UHB) fantasy league I set up at Yahoo! Fantasy Sports, I decided to expand on the idea. I am writing to announce the birth of UHB2, a spin off of the original UHB. There are a couple of differences with this new league. One is that the service provider I am using for UHB2 is Fantrax.com. The other is that the league is set up with a rotisserie scoring format. With the Yahoo pool having a head-to-head format, a lot of roto lovers were left out of the club. We here at the UHB share the philosophy of the more, the merrier!

If you would be interested in joining this new fantasy league or for more details, click here. As I mentioned previously, it is a rotisserie format set up for 16 teams maximum. If I can't get 16 then it will still run with as many teams as I can get. I would prefer at least 10. You must hurry though if you want to join as the automatic draft is set for Wednesday, Sep. 30 at 9pm. Tell your friends. 4 teams have already joined.

After several years as an active participant of  various fantasy hockey leagues, I've decided to try on the commissioner's hat and create my very own league. If this year's pool goes well, I plan to make it an annual event. It will be open to all but I would prefer serious  managers. Nothing drags down a league more than a couple of GMs who decide to abandon their teams in the middle of the season because they are not performing well.

A couple of cool things about the UHB. One is it is completely free to join. That means no entry fee is required. The other is there is an actual trophy that will be delivered to the address of the league champion to keep forever.

Except for two reserved spots, applicants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Details on how and when to join, league settings and other info can be found out the UHB fantasy league site. The UHB also has its own gift shop if you are interested in purchasing some swag.

Coming soon, I will unveil a public fantasy hockey league I have created for this upcoming NHL season called United Hockey Blades (UHB). It will be absolutely free to join and the winner will receive the trophy you see above as a prize at my expense, including shipping and handling. If you're a Commissioner of your own fantasy league, you may want to consider rewarding your league's champion with something a little more permanent than cash (not that cash is bad) and looks great in a trophy case or by the bar in the basement.

This trophy stein makes a great memento and will always be a reminder of your championship season and what it took to get there. Besides, you know you've always wanted to drink out of your own trophy, right guys?

Even though this fantasy season has come to a close, it's still not to late to treat yourself to the trophy you deserve. It only takes a couple of minutes to customize and then it is yours forever. Then, for next season, plant a bug in your league commissioner's ear and see if he will consider offering it as a prize. If need be, part of the league's entry fee can go towards the cost of the stein.

Personalized Football and Soccer Cards

Previously, I have posted about the customizable baseball cards I and a few other designers have made available for sale. These cards allow you to upload an image of your child (or yourself) and type in your name and various statistics and info into the appropriate text fields. The whole process only takes a couple of minutes and then you are ready to order. It's a pretty cool way to make your child's day. Imagine the fun they can have trading cards with other friends who have done the same thing!

Eventually, my plan is to branch out into some of the other sports and create custom cards for those. I have not gotten around to that yet but someone who did is the designer beezkneez's . Incidentally, if you would like a poster of the sport card design of your choice, simply get in contact with any of the designers and ask. It never hurts to ask. Have a look at the poster I created when a customer asked me if I would make one. Did I make it, you ask? You're looking at it aren't you? ;)

Amherst Iceburgs- 2005-06 Champions!

Well, finally after 4 years and three trips to the finals, I have won our hockey pool from work. WOOHOO!!! After a 2nd place finish in 2001-02, 3rd in 2002-03 and 2nd again in 2003-04, the Amherst Iceburgs are the 2005-06 UJFHL Champions! It was a bitterly fought finals over the last 2 weeks with a very worthy opponent, Leafs Blow (nice name...). Although the final score was 9-1, it does not reflect how close each stat category was. I have to say that Sidney Crosby really came through for me in the clutch and has to be maybe the best pickup off waivers I've ever made. Thanks to Aging Buds for putting him on waivers!!

For the first time in UJFHL history an actual trophy will be presented this time to the winner. The Sixpack Cup had always been a virtual reality trophy until now.
