In celebration of Canada Day, I thought I would talk about the current contest that CBC is holding to find a new theme for their Hockey Night In Canada show. Recently it was announced that the CBC was unable to reach an agreement with the copyright owner of the longtime HNIC theme which had been the program's opening intro for almost 40 years.

Now in need of a new theme, CBC announced an Anthem Challenge for contestants to enter their submissions for a chance to win $100,000 and bragging rights as the songwriter of the new HNIC theme. The deadline for entry is August 31, 2008. The winner will be revealed Oct 11, 2008.
The following are a few sample entries I have selected to showcase. These entries, by no means are necessarily the best of the batch but are some of the few that I have viewed so far. There are literally hundreds more to check out and vote on or leave comments, so if you want to see the rest, go to Canada's Hockey Anthem Challenge at CBCsports.ca, you might just find the next HNIC theme.
